How Can Retailers Have A Successful Easter Weekend

As a stand out weekend that sits high on the calendars of many Brits, the Easter Weekend is often marked as being one of the busiest and therefore most profitable for small businesses and retailers. Four days of improving weather (hopefully) at a time in the month where consumers aren’t quite ready to tighten their purse strings, it’s no surprise that it’s often seen as a huge opportunity for businesses to provide a spike in their revenue.

At least, that used to be the case. Much has been made of small businesses and retailers taking a hit over many recent holidays that traditionally see an increase in spending, with Easter in 2018 proving to be no exception to this rule. Of course, there can be many unpredictable factors that cause these dips in customer spending and many have predicted that Brexit uncertainty (sorry, it had to be brought up) might cause this dip to continue.

But fear not, for we have positive news! If you’re a retailer whose planning on being open over Easter, you should expect a flock fo customers coming your way.

That’s right, early statistics indicate that 7 out of 10 Brits are preparing to spend specifically on the Easter weekend, an increase of almost 17% in 2018. Not only this, but we are also predicted to spend an estimated £1.1 Billion on Easter-related gifts and entertainment, meaning that there’s plenty of Easter themed opportunities for small businesses to cash in on.

The real trick here, however, is to use this weekend as an opportunity to increase cash flow in the long term, making sure that you take the most of this opportunity to nail down your customer base and ensure that they return again & again once the festivities have died down.

With all this said, here are some tips that will help ensure that your business has a successful easter.

Strike whilst the iron’s hot

As obvious as it sounds, the best time to start nailing down your customer base is when your store is it’s busiest. Even if you’re not open for the entire weekend, the increased influx of customers will still present an opportunity that you can’t afford to miss. These moments when your customer footfall is at it’s highest are the times you should be taking the time to establish connections with them that keep them coming back to your business. Once you do, you’ll have a dedicated base of customers to contact during your quieter months.

Show off your unique products

What the statistics above show above anything else, is that shoppers want to spend their money on gifts & entertainment that fits in with the Easter fun. If you own a cafe, coffee shop or restaurant, offer limited Easter related treats customers can purchase, or better yet, if you have the space put on Easter events that attract families and larger groups. The more the merrier!

Keep in contact

Whether social media, email or even new tools like push notifications are your weapons of choice for connecting with customers, make sure you use every channel available to speak to with them. Keeping in regular contact with customers is your greatest resource for ensuring they never forget you. You can even use it as an opportunity to announce new products, plans for the upcoming year or anything else that you feel will create a customer who is eager to return to your business.
